Description
A
beautiful Victorian ring boasting an
elaborately carved 18 Carat Gold setting
and quality Mine Cut, Rose Cut and
European Cut Diamonds.
Characteristic
of high quality craftsmanship of the late 19th Century
the setting is heavier and more detailed than it's modern
counterparts as per the fashions of the day.
The
Diamonds are also indicative of the three main Cuts
used during Queen Victoria's reign. The central (largest)
Diamond is Old Mine Cut and the four flanking Diamonds
are Old European Cut. These are interspaced by lovely
little Rose Cut Diamonds which add further sparkle to
the heavy Gold setting. The Diamonds are great
quality, even by today's standards. It is now
widely known that it is impossible to accurately apply
modern grading systems to antique stones but for the
purposes of clarification we have judged these to be
SI-P1 clarity and H in colour.
The diamonds do appear to draw a little colour but under
close scrutiny this appears to be a result of the Yellow
Gold setting.
Typical
of Old Cuts they feature wonderfully heavy crowns, making
their actual (unset) weight greater than that of modern
brilliants although the spread/diameter measurement
is the same. For this reason we believe they could weigh
in excess of 1.75 Carats if unset.
Each
diamond is unique in cut as the technology was not available
at this time to create a standard "ideal,"
however this is the charm of Old Cut Diamonds, as each
is completely individual under close inspection.
Superb
Condition. Possible to resize.
It
is a UK size P, US approx 8.
