Description
Created
by it's namesake, Christopher Pinchbeck, Pinchbeck
was often used in the 18th Century to create convincing replicas
of gold jewellery which the wealthy could use on their travels
without fear of theft.
During
Queen Victoria's reign it became an affordable
alternative to gold and fashionable it it's own right. As
this piece shows the craftsmanship was of superb quality,
this particular example features a swivel section set with
Chalcedony and Bloodstone
to either side. This can be opened to reveal a lock of hair
encased in glass.
It also has a rather
noble looking lion decorating the top.
In
all it measures 2" in length.
