Description
From
the mid
19th Century onwards, animal and insect motifs
became incredibly popular. This particular piece dates from
the latter part of the 1800's due to the
use of colourful and semi-precious stones in it's design.
It's
a really charming piece, quite small by comparison
to other examples which makes it very appealing. It was possibly
meant originally as a scatter brooch and would have been worn
alonside others of similar design.
Set
with lovely Rose Cut Diamonds, a large faceted
Amethyst, a smaller round Sapphire
and Ruby eyes in Silver
and traditionally backed with Gold. It's
a beautifully lightweight piece, unlike modern copies and
the open backed setting allows light to pass through all the
gems giving them extra sparkle. The Rose Cut Diamonds are
nice and clear and white and the piece is in excellent
condition.
The
wing span measures only 3cm.
*Please
note, whilst the diamonds appear to draw colour in the photographs
this is purely due to the reflection of the background and
where the yellow gold pin passes behind them.*
