Description
Circa
1890 these gorgeous earrings are in remarkable
condition and typify the Victorian penchant
for astral symbols and Bohemian gems.
The
blood-red variety of Garnet (known as Pyrope)
was found prolifically in Bohemia, now more widely referred
to as the Czech Republic. Cut with a faceted domed top and
flat base, similarly to the 16th Century Rose Cut used on
Diamonds, Bohemian Garnet jewellery was highly fashionable
during the mid to late 19th Century and are now very collectable
pieces.
These
particular earrings are typically set in Gilded
metal and have slightly later Gold French Hook fastenings.
