Description
One
of the finest pieces in our collection this sumptuous Early
Victorian brooch boasts an array of Rose
Cut Diamonds, each set in Silver
to form a lucky Horseshoe design and displaying a combined
Diamond weight of 1.5 Carats spread.
The
horseshoe is set within a wash of Royal Blue Enamel
over typically unmarked Rose Gold.
The Gold has been hand engraved and then the Enamel hand painted
over the top to create an early Guilloche Enamel
effect. Later examples feature engine turned gold work.
The
Diamonds are clear and white, although Rose Cuts (particularly
when set closed back) are virtually impossible to grade using
modern standards as the cut is unlike any we use today. Suffice
to say that they are superb quality, as is
the graceful gold rope work edging and ornate safety chain.
Every
aspect of this piece screams high quality
and fine design, typical of jewels of this era. This piece
pre-dates the mass production of jewellery which became more
prevalent towards the latter half of Queen Victoria's reign
and would have been valued as a work of art when made. It
should be viewed as no less now, and as genuine pieces of
this age and condition become increasingly rare its value
both intrinsically, historically and aesthetically can only
increase.
It
measures 7/8" (22mm) in diameter.
Price:
£560.00 (approx $960.00 USD)
