Description
This
superb item really epitomises the outstanding craftsmanship
and elaborate sophistication of Victorian jewellery. This
solid Gold hinged bangle
(guaranteed no lower than 9 Carat but typically unmarked)
is simply breathtaking in design, the simple shape and plain
back complemented perfectly by the intricate Cannetille
Gold work which adorns the front. It has
not only retained it's original safety chain but also it's
original leather and velvet lined bangle box
(not photographed but included) which is also in excellent
condition.
There is some slight
damage to the front, although the term "damage"
is really too harsh a description. The cannetille work is
bordered by raised frames of gold which encircle the front.
In the middle these have a slightly "pinched" look
under very close inspection, possibly from previous owners
holding that area to extract the bangle from its box and possibly
applying a little too much pressure.
In
every other way the piece is in perfect condition
and for this reason is very rare. Many bangles have been twisted,
bent, punctured and deformed over the years. Many more are
much too small for modern day wear as ladies wrists have greatly
increased in size over the past 150 years.
This
piece measures approx 7" in circumference, and 1cm in
width and is a truly superb example.
