Description
Following
a revival in fashion for Cameos during the mid-1800's,
brooches such as this were extremely popular.
Set
in a plain Gold frame this cameo depicts
a woman carrying a child, flanked by two other people (one
with a large beard) and a small boy with a walking stick.
In the background are two twisted palm trees.
The
value of a cameo lies mainly in the intricacy of it's design,
and for that this enchanting piece is highly sought after.
It is hard to imagine it possible that a scene such as this
could be carved by hand with such accuracy. The detailing
is beautiful.
