Description
Displaying
one of Gold's most prominent attributes the front of this
locket has been skilfully crafted to create an elaborately
striking design which encompasses a single Oval Old
Cut Diamond.
Gold has long been revered,
not only for it's beauty but equally importantly for it's
versatility and the Victorian designers and manufacturers
were eager to experiment with Gold's capabilities.
This
locket is a perfect example of the craftsmanship of the time.
At 2.5" (6.5cm) in length it is a substantial
piece of superb quality and weight. It remains in wonderful
condition and the interior appears to have been unused.
As the photograph shows there is a small hole cut into the
case lining purely to benefit the Diamond.
Despite
the lack of a hallmark there is no doubt that the locket is
Solid Gold, although it's specific carat
would only be apparent through testing. This unfortunately
entails making scratches into the Gold and as this would obviously
mark an otherwise perfect piece of jewellery we have decided
against testing.
